14.8 Network Documentation


You should document each network link in your system when it is installed. The documentation should include the length of each cable segment in the link, including any MII cables, patch cables, etc. Also included should be the cable type and any information you can collect on the cable manufacturer, cable ID numbers printed on the outer sheath, and cable delay in bit times as provided by the manufacturer. Table 14.7 provides a handy form for collecting link information.
